A YouTuber told me that this anime was erotic and suitable for adults. So I started watching this anime with an ulterior motive, but aside from the eroticism, it was very interesting. The eroticism is not that strong, so don’t worry.
Idaten(韋駄天) is a member of the guardians associated with Buddhism. There is an anecdote that he ran after a bad guy and caught him, so in Japan, a fast person is sometimes compared to Idaten, but this has nothing to do with the content of this anime, so there is no need to think too much about it.
Highlights: Hard to imagine from the images, but well-designed anime.
It has the fun of a traditional battle anime, with its battles of strength and speed, and the process by which the main character trains and improves his fighting skills. But it also has cunning strategies, intrigue, grotesqueness, and eroticism. And because the story unfolds in a fast-paced and unexpected direction, you will be drawn into the world of the work before you know it.
This anime is not intended for children. It is for you adults.
The images in this anime are very impressive, with pops of color. Scenes that could be cruel and offensive are presented in a light touch and comical manner. I appreciate that this is a good thing about anime. In a live-action film, it would be ethically unacceptable.
This anime has a good opening song and a cool, psychedelic background image for the song. Most anime with great songs usually have great content in the main story as well.
Setting: The whole thing is ridiculous. But the details are extremely reasonable.
Interestingly, in this anime, the deities are not necessarily the guardians of the humans; they are simply the natural enemies of the demons. They attack demons reflexively, and they don’t mind if humans become collateral damage. Deities do not allow demons to exterminate humans, but they are indifferent to humans killing each other.
Deities and demons, you may think, are very childish stories. However, the details of this story are given a very reasonable setting. For example, both deities and demons employ humans and fight using science and digital technology. Moreover, both the deities and the demons have intellectuals and martial artists, and they make use of teamwork with the right people.
The complexity of the deities and the demons is one of the reasons why this anime is suitable for adults.
As mentioned above, the setting of this anime is realistic and, therefore, a bit on the complex side. Therefore, long, explanatory lines of dialogue by the characters are sometimes necessary, in which case, to my surprise, the audio doubles in speed on its own.
These pranks are part of the charm of this anime. It is one of the things that will please us adult viewers.
Story: A battle without honor between the deities, who are not afraid to use any means, and the demons, who have both intelligence and strength.
A common pattern would be for the story to progress in a way that the protagonist bounces back from adversity from a disadvantageous situation, but in this anime it is reversed. The protagonist appears to be winning steadily, but is then pushed into a difficult situation. That is the interesting part of this anime. It is a sight to see how the demon tribe, who went underground, revives the war situation with their wits and coordination.
This anime has many memorable scenes and dialogues. I would like to be more specific about the story, but I will not spoil it, as the unexpected twists and turns are also part of the charm of this anime.
I first watched it all at once, then watched it a second and third time.
A number of veteran voice actors have been used.
This anime is also very well cast in terms of voice actors. Emi Ogata 緒方恵美 (Shinji Ikari from “EVANGELION”), Akira Ishida 石田彰 (Kaworu Nagisa from “EVANGELION”), Akemi Okamura 岡村明美 (Fio from “Porco Rosso”), and many others. Japanese voice actors’ acting skills are excellent, and I urge you to listen to the original Japanese audio. Their voice acting further boosts the quality of the anime.
With veteran voice actors, one only needs to hear a bit of their voice to know who it is. However, I can’t help but be surprised that the next two characters are the same voice actress (Asami Seto 瀬戸麻沙美). These two are completely different types.
- Left : Piscalat of “The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace”:Cold-blooded villain with a low voice to match.
- Right : Raphtalia of “The Rising of the Shield Hero” : Cute voice as she is a single-minded girl.
Sad news: second season production has not been decided.
Despite being such an interesting anime, it seems that no production has been set for the next and subsequent seasons. Perhaps it did not sell very well. However, the immortal masterpiece “Lupin the 3rd: Castle of Cagliostro” was also a box office failure when it was first released. Do not give up. Let’s wait with hope.
Your watching will save this anime.
